New saints include Elizabeth of the Trinity
Elizabeth of the Trinity, a French Carmelite mystic and writer, has been declared a saint. Pope Francis also canonised six others on Sunday, including Guillaume-Nicolas-Louis Leclercq, martyred during the French Revolution after refusing allegiance to the regime.
Bishops still support stricter abortion laws
Poland’s bishops have reiterated support for pro-life controls, after parliamentarians voted down a new abortion ban. Life “shouldn’t be the object of political bargains”, said the bishops’ bioethics spokesman.
Poor Clares clarification
